Meet a Tester: Gesi Josepha Miltony Martšuk , Managing Editor, Testlio May 20th, 2019 In Meet a Tester, we feature QA experts from our community who share their love for quality and Testlio. Please meet our ever so positive TestLion, Gesi! Where are you from? I’m from Indonesia. I was born in Tangerang, but grew up in Pekalongan which is famous for its Batik and known as the “World’s City of Batik”. You can even learn how to make Batik yourself at the Batik Museum! In addition to Batik, Pekalongan also has several natural tourism spots, like the Pasir Kencana Beach and Petungkriyono. I’m so blessed to live in such a beautiful city. What’s your educational background? I have a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. My first job was in Quality Assurance and I loved it. This has now led me to the software development field. How did you end up testing for Testlio? I attended a seminar held by the Indonesia Software Quality Assurance organization (ISQA), and one of the speakers talked about working remotely as a QA. His name was Bayu Ari, and he was already a TestLion. I learned about the platform from him and decided to give it a try as well. Testlio just exceeded my expectations! The platform, the testing process, and especially the community members are just so warm and welcoming. I’m glad being part of such a great team! What are your specialties? I’ve been mostly doing web and mobile application testing. Currently, I do not have any testing certifications, but I hope I can start getting certified in the near future. How does Testlio’s pay compare to your market rate? Compared to the average pay rate in Indonesia, Testlio pays a very decent hourly wage. Especially considering that the only things we need are a device and internet (which almost everybody has!). You don’t even need to leave your room to work, how nice is that! 😀 How do you manage the balance between testing and personal life? Although testing is my passion, I agree that having a little free time is necessary. Once in a while, I like traveling with my friends, enjoying the beautiful nature. Waterfalls and rivers are my favorites! I also like to spend some “me time” by going to a nice cafe and eating yummy food. Gesi at the Petungkriyono What motivates you professionally? Family is definitely my top priority. Since my father passed away five years ago, I have had to become the backbone of my family. Whenever I feel down, I remember my family and get right back up. A deep warm conversation with my family will always keep me in high spirits whenever I’m feeling down. What’s an interesting fact about yourself? People often say that I’m good at math and have a keen eye for detail. For example, when I went to Japan and got to the train station, I figured out exactly what escalator I should take to put myself in front of the train’s doors. So I waited at that spot for the train to arrive and voila! The doors opened right in front of me. What are some personal apps you like to use? I spend a lot of time on Instagram and YouTube, as these two apps cover most of my needs. With Instagram, I can socialize with my friends, search for light content, daily information, and funny stuff too. And with YouTube, I can watch almost anything! How would you convince a friend to join Testlio? I already did! I have invited friends to join the platform and some of them have started testing as well. I mean, you can work remotely, have flexible working hours, enjoy decent pay, and be part of a great community! The projects are also varied so you won’t get bored. Join us!
