Crisis Aid

Testlio cares deeply about the safety of people worldwide and recognizes that instances of war, natural disasters, and other calamities are altogether too frequent. Our business is also founded on the power of a global network of freelance testers, and our founder’s vision of providing better work, experiences, and support for them. 

Aligned with these realities, we created an aid program for Testlio freelancers in high-crisis cities. The program launched in early 2022.

Crisis Definition

A high-crisis city is one facing “an actual or imminent force majeure event, including wars, insurrections, natural disasters, and infrastructure failures.” For example, before the Russian government invaded Ukraine, we defined Kharkiv, Ukraine, as a high-crisis city based on its proximity to the border with Russia. We focus on cities vs. countries or broader regions with this initiative.

Eligibility

If a freelancer has worked with Testlio for at least five hours during each of the last three months, and is located in a high-crisis city, they are eligible to receive a $500 USD aid grant to help them relocate or otherwise find greater safety or stability. Testlio has issued nearly 50 grants in 2022 — greenlighting more than 90% of those eligible who have applied for aid this year. Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and the funds do not need to be paid back — it is a grant, not a loan.

  • How do I know if I would be eligible to apply for a grant from Testlio?
    If you are one of our freelancers who has worked with Testlio for at least five hours within the past three months, you are eligible to apply. Once we receive your application, one of our people will contact you via email with any questions and remain in touch throughout the grant award process.
  • Can I apply for a grant from Testlio if I have a need other than what’s defined as a high-crisis situation in my city?
    Unfortunately, not at this time. We have established this program to serve people whose circumstances are extraordinary and are in need of immediate assistance — often to leave cities that are in crisis.
  • What is the amount of the grant?
    The amount per grant is $500 USD. 
  • Are grants provided over time?
    No. The grant is a one-time, electronic cash payment.
  • How long does it take once an application is submitted to go through the approval process and receive funding?
    Once Testlio understands your situation, which may require a few follow-up questions, we will provide approval within two business days. Please let us know if your situation is particularly urgent, and we will do our best to work as quickly as possible.
  • Do I have to pay the grant back?
    No. This is a grant, not a loan: you do not have to pay it back.
  • How will I receive this grant?
    Our primary, preferred channels for issuing grants are either PayPal or Payoneer.
