How it all started

Our story is all about providing strategic software testing at scale. We’ve brought together a global freelance network, expert services, and an integrated platform to help the world’s biggest companies and most innovative brands release better products faster.

Meet our founders

The Beginning

Testlio started in 2012 with Kristel, a frustrated software tester passionate about quality assurance and making the world a better place.

Along with her co-founder and now husband Marko, they entered the AngelHack hackathon in London with a business idea that would improve the way software testing was done. They won AngelHack, moved to Austin for the Techstars accelerator, and the rest is history.

Our story

2012

Marko & Kristel enter Testlio in Angelhack London.

2013

The founders win Global Angelhack in San Francisco. Testlio joins the Techstars accelerator program in Austin, Texas.

2014

Steve begins advisory work with Marko and Kristel and coins “TestLion”. Seed round provides initial capital Testlio. Michelle Surya joins Testlio.

2015

Early clients like CBS and Microsoft see strong initial value. Series A welcomes Altos and Vertex Ventures.

2017

Kristel is recognized as entrepreneur of the year in Estonia. Testlio grows to over 100 clients, welcoming NBA, Fox, and others.

2018

Steve becomes Testlio’s CEO, Kristel embraces founder & board director role.

2019

Testlio Ignite launches our first class, helping those in need enter testing. Testlio becomes profitable and goes on to 3 years of Rule of 40+ performance.

2020

The team becomes distributed-by-design. Testlio grows to over 100 full-time people.

2021

Series B welcomes Spring Lake Growth Equity. Clients like Amazon, Netflix, and Thrive Market sign up.

2022

Testlio celebrates 10 year anniversary. Testlio crosses 200 full-time TestLions. Kristel wins Inc Top 100 Female Founder Award.

2023

Testlio goes 100% remote with TestLions in 39 countries and freelance testers in 150+. Testlio makes the 2023 Inc. 5,000 fastest-growing companies list.

2024

Testlio becomes a top payment testing provider with 100+ engagements, helping clients unlock 5X ROI. Testlio launches the 4th Ignite program.
