This ethos is echoed by the team lead, Helen Burge, who is an industry expert. Over the years, she has achieved the following milestones: Certified Professional in Web Accessibility (CPWA):Awarded by the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP), this certification is one of the few available for accessibility professionals. It highlights that the lead has a foundation in user understanding, accessibility laws, best practices, and code standards. Invited Expert to the W3C:Being invited to contribute to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is a profound honour. The insights have helped the Testlio team keep up to date with the work going on behind the scenes as well as having a voice that can be heard on changes to include. The chance to expand our knowledge and understanding helps us with our shared internal knowledge. Champion of Learning for Testlio:The award was granted due to team feedback that Helen canĀ train others with active listening and achievable goals for new skills in the accessibility field. The team shares learned experiences with each other. As with all fields in technology, there is never a finished point with learning, and we enjoy the journey together. Actionable Results Whether you have a finished product audit, component testing, or design reviews, the team will offer actionable and realistic solutions. We will tell you if an issue identified normatively fails the success criteria or is a best practice. A normative failing means it fails the success criterion directly. A best practice is a recommendation that helps improve the user experience. There are some industry concerns over the use of best practices in audits, as some feel this means the client can reject them. This is a choice clients can make. We give you the information on why something is deemed a best practice and how it impacts users. If you decide to address them, it is down to you. We appreciate that we are not the ones doing the fixes, and you are the experts on your products. The issues we identify come with videos for the use of tools, screenshots highlighting where all issues occur, and suggested solutions and resources to helpĀ teams understand and learn as they go. We try to deliver informative results to encourage self-learning with guidance, which is the best way for teams to learn and grow. Solutions to Fit How You Work We have given you a high-level overview of all we can do, without listing the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as we appreciate they are sometimes complex for people new to accessibility. We also know that not every product requires WCAG, as there are multiple guidelines and legal requirements that could apply. Instead, we talk with you, scope the work to be covered from your guidance, and fit to the methodology you work with in developing your products. I hope you notice how we will consult and ask you for your thoughts. We shape solutions to suit your preferred workflow. We can easily guide you if wanted, but we all appreciate that every person we interact with has different levels of expertise, and until we talk, we will not assume. Once we have an agreed process, we will agree on deadlines and meet them.
