Freelance Usability Researcher

Hi there! We are Testlio, a software testing company with its own freelance network. Our freelancers test apps from worldwide companies. Testlio is a great place for people who value the freedom and flexibility of remote work.

At the moment, we are looking for 2 Junior UX Researchers based in the Americas region to support usability testing projects. This is a great opportunity for someone eager to build hands-on experience while contributing to client-facing research.

For this workspace, you’ll collaborate on projects for clients across a wide range of industries, from streaming and fintech to e-commerce and digital platforms. Each project brings unique challenges and learning opportunities, giving you exposure to different audiences, products, and research methods.

Requirements

• You have to be at least 18 years old.
• Location: Americas region.
• Availability:
  • This is an ongoing, project-based role with variable workloads depending on project needs. Each project may range from approximately 20 hours to 60 hours of work, with timelines varying from about 1 week to 4 weeks. There is potential for multiple projects over time, providing continued opportunities for collaboration.
• Language: English (advanced) for reading the testing instructions and collaborating with the testing team.
• 0-2 years of professional UX research experience (internships, bootcamps, or academic projects welcome).
• Familiarity with usability testing methods (moderated, unmoderated, surveys).
• Comfortable with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) + at least one usability testing tool (Maze, Lookback, UserTesting, etc.).
• Basic familiarity with design/research tools like Miro, Figma, or Dovetail.
• Experience analyzing qualitative data (affinity mapping, thematic analysis).
• Basic knowledge of quantitative methods (e.g., SUS surveys).
• Nice-to-Haves:
  • Degree or certification or bootcamp in UX Research/Design, HCI, psychology, design, anthropology, or related field.
  • Exposure to usability testing different device environments (mobile, desktop, tablets, smart TV, in production, prototypes etc.).
  • Public speaking skills/experience presenting findings to clients, external teams or stakeholders.

What are the key responsibilities?

• Assist in creating research plans aligned to project goals.
• Develop usability testing scripts and scenarios.
• Build and distribute unmoderated usability tests in a testing platform.
• Conduct user interviews and moderate usability test sessions.
• Review and analyze user research recordings, survey responses and data.
• Identify usability issues, pain points, and user insights.
• Package findings into clear, client-facing reports.
• Provide general support to the Lead UX Researcher across projects.
